Figuring Out Your Perfect Fit

Fit

Full figure women frequently ask my advice on how to determine whether an outfit will fit them from just looking at a picture.  Truthfully – you can’t.  You really have to try it on to know for sure how it will fit your body but you can make some smart decisions about an outfit based on some basic research that can found right on the website where you are shopping.

Every clothing website should have a link to their size chart.  There you will find measurements in inches that are equal to a specific size.  This means taking out your tape measure and getting to know your hips and curves.

Other than your own body shape, another factor in how, for instance, a dress will fit is the dress itself.  A dress will drape very differently depending on the fabric used, the placement of the seams, the stitches used on those seams, and the way the fabric is cut.  Look carefully at the pictures to see where the seams are and look at your wardrobe. Do you have anything similar hanging there?

In fact, almost everything I wear I buy online.  I even bought my wedding dress online from Lane Bryant.  It fit perfectly and there were no unexpected surprises.  Well, except for how amazingly chilly it got that day for our outdoor ceremony!
